For comparisons sake…here are the record sales for

The Path of Totality:

METAL BY NUMBERS 5/30 (2012): FORWARD SLASH Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner), 1,900 sold
It’s pretty interesting to see that amid all the hype about the band’s venture into electronic music, this album’s only sold about 225,000 copies. In fact, one of the album,’s collaborators, Skrillex, has sold more of his album in less time.

METAL BY NUMBERS 5/23 (2012): TENACIOUS D RIZE TO THE TOP 5 Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #183, 1,950 sold
After a nice jump in sales last week (likely thanks to their mini-reunion with Brian “Head” Welch), Korn experience a 41% decrease in sales, dropping down the charts by 46 spots.

METAL BY NUMBERS 5/16 (2012): TAKING THE CHARTS BY STORM Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #137, 3,310 sold
It’s safe to assume that Korn’s mini-reunion with Brian “Head” Welch played some role in the 29% increase in sales their latest album experienced.

METAL BY NUMBERS 5/2 (2012): A RETURN TO AVERAGE ALBUM SALES Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #159, 2,420 sold
Though Korn may not be performing on the inaugural Mayhem Cruise, singer Jonathan Davis will be DJing aboard the cruise.

METAL BY NUMBERS 4/25 (2012): LOSING FORCE ON THE CHARTS Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #155, 2,710 sold
Like we said before, winning “album of the year” at the Revolver Golden Gods doesn’t equal to album sales.

METAL BY NUMBERS 4/18 (2012): A STRANGE CASE OF BANDS SELLING ALBUMS Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #138, 2,890 sold
Guess winning “album of the year” at the Revolver Golden Gods didn’t help improve sales by much.

METAL BY NUMBERS (4/11 (2012)): IT’S NO MYSTERY WHY THE CHARTS ARE ON FIRE Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #136, 3,460 sold
The nu metal pioneers are probably looking forward to tonight’s Revolver Golden Gods Awards, since not only are they nominated for several awards, but will also be performing.

METAL BY NUMBERS 4/4 (2012): MESHUGGAH, OVERKILL DEFY SLUMPS IN HUGE WEEK FOR DEBUTS Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #135, 3,390 sold
The nu metal pioneers drop 30 spots down the charts despite only experiencing a 4% decrease in sales.

METAL BY NUMBERS 3/28 (2012): THE CHARTS MAKE US UNSANE Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #105, 3,540 sold
Even with another 13% decrease in sales, Korn is likely having a better week than former drummer drummer David Silveria.

METAL BY NUMBERS 3/7 (2012):VEIL OF MAYA ECLIPSES PREVIOUS CHART POSITION Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #66, 7,560 sold
The nu-metal pioneers jump up the charts by nine spots thanks to a 25% increase in sales. The sudden boost is likely thanks to Amazon’s one day $3.99 sale, and likely has nothing to do with this video.

METAL BY NUMBERS 2/29 (2012): POISON THE CHARTS – WITH HIPSTERS! Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #75, 6,070 sold
Even though the nu-metal pioneers actually jump up the charts by seven spots, they actually experience a 12% decrease in sales.

METAL BY NUMBERS 2/8 (2012): LEADING THROUGH THE NEW RELEASES Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #71, 6,560 sold
Despite a 6% increase in sales, the nu metal pioneers get kicked out of the top 70 in their ninth week on the charts.

METAL BY NUMBERS 2/1 (2012): AN ACT OF GOD Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #68, 6,180 sold
After eight weeks, the band’s electronic/ dubstep album sells over 155,200 copies. Not bad for most bands, but certainly low in regards to Korn’s past releases.

METAL BY NUMBERS 1/25 (2012): A CRABBY WEEK FOR ALBUM SALES Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #49, 6,750 sold
Turns out the nu metal pioneers filmed a performance for Walmart’s Soundcheck online series, and not a commercial. Although, seeing how they’ve only sold around 149,000 copies of their electronic/dubstep album in the past seven weeks, maybe Korn should have filmed a commercial with the retail giant.

METAL BY NUMBERS 1/18(2012): A WEEK WHERE YOU’LL ‘WISH’ ALBUMS SOLD MORE Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #45, 7,400 sold
Another 19% decrease for the nu metal pioneers in their sixth week on the charts. Maybe a Walmart commercial will help boost sales.

METAL BY NUMBERS 1/4 (2012): FROM FIRST TO #19 Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #42, 14,900 sold
125,000 copies in four weeks is nothing to sneeze at, for either a metal album or an electronic one. Did Revolver‘s trolling naming it the album of the year help? Perhaps.

METAL BY NUMBERS 12/14 (2011): THE PATH OF DECENT ALBUM SALES Metal Insider

Korn, The Path of Totality (Roadrunner) #10, 54,730 sold
While you can’t expect any band to sell as many units as they did even five years ago nowadays, The Path Of Totality does mark the first time a Korn album hasn’t debuted in the top 5 since 2003’s Take A Look In the Mirror (which premiered at #9).

  1. According to Billboard, overall album sales fell 4.4 percent in 2012 when compared to 2011 (when PoT came out). And FMQB is reporting that overall album sales fell 8 percent in 2013 when compared 2012. So doing some very unscientific calculations, it looks like the 2013 equivalent of PoT’s first-week sales is 48,035. TPS came in a little lower it’s first week at 46,000, but it’s not as drastic a drop as it seems.
The biggest problem right now is that TPS is dropping faster than PoT did. Hopefully Spike in My Veins will continue to climb the charts and reverse this trend. A strong third single later on could help a lot too, as PoT’s third single was a major bomb.

Totally agree! We’ll see what happens with Spike…the video and the spins on the radio may produce some increases in sales.

Record sales seem like a poor investments these days for artists. I know ya gotta get new stuff out to keep fans happy, but if u dont tour frequently or have 3 other bands running you might as well get a conventional job?

  3. Could you make a comparison with Follow the Leader? I mean, it is awesome to know it is selling well in comparison to tPoT, but what about their most sold album?
